Why We’re Here
The vision for Matrix of Truth is an evolving one. As we share and reveal truth within this space, our prayer is for increased wisdom, revelation, and growth in the things of God, as we join together in "treasure hunting" for the truth!
Matrix of Truth is a community. A community of truth-seekers and deep thinkers, who ultimately want answers to some of life’s most difficult questions and unsolved mysteries. We're ultimately after reasonable, biblically-sound explanations for the major questions that challenge and stump us.
We are here to take some of the guesswork out of understanding the Bible. One of our aims is to help you make the Bible's principles, promises, and prophecies applicable to your own life in the 21st century. While Matrix of Truth is not a platform designed to replace your own individual study and meditation of the Word, nor can it substitute for your personal walk with God, we hope to shed light on some of the more mysterious/questionable/debatable aspects of Scripture, so that this knowledge will enhance and edify you in your Christian journey.
We believe a solid foundation in biblical teaching and understanding is the first place to start in knowing truth. While there are many so-called "truths" out there, there is only one real truth, and it is TheTruth . . . the truth of God's creation of humanity, His perfect love and purpose for it, and His unwavering commitment to it, as evidenced by the giving of His Son, Jesus, to die for it. This understanding and a worldview based upon it is the only way to firmly grasp reality, as well as be successful in both this life and the life to come. We therefore will engage the entirety of Scripture in our quest for truth, and base everything we conclude upon it; if what we "discover" doesn't jibe with the Book, or if it in any way goes against Scripture's clear principles and standards, then we will reject it as truth — confident that it cannot be such, if it contradicts God's Word. In this space we furthermore will provide lessons, workshops, teachings, resources, programs and activities to help enhance our biblical knowledge and understanding — without all the confusing jargon and legalese that typically accompanies in-depth Bible study. We're about dispelling the fiction and building your faith, but also having FUN!
We want to be relatable, while also being reliable — a reliable source for real, honest answers. Unfortunately, the "untruth" has become too normalized in our world . . . there are so many lies, legends, fallacies and falsehoods out there, it's hard to know what's what or where to even begin separating fact from fiction! When it comes to the realm of faith, spirituality, and the Church, another major stumbling-block is the proliferation of false doctrines, false teachers, and false religions that effectively hinder people's knowledge and growth. As one who has come to know The Truth — through saving belief in Jesus Christ, which has restored my personal relationship with His Father, the one and only true God— I cannot idly stand by and let these rampant untruths go uncovered, unchallenged, and undisputed! Of course, as pastor of a church it is my job to teach and promote the truth . . . but this cause happens to be deeply personal to me and essential to who I am as an individual.
Oh, and we want to be free to just be geeks, too! Geeks and their culture used to be shunned and unpopular in society, but now they're being celebrated as the true "brains" of society — the innovators, inventors, thought-leaders, movers-and-shakers, and veritable transformers who inspire, inform and advance us! I'm therefore proud to be a self-professed geek — to be a guy who's always been fascinated by the mysterious, the unknown, the unsolvable, the fantastical, the supernatural, and ultimately, the Bible! This includes my lifelong "fandom" when it comes to the world of comics (giving equal respect to both DC and Marvel!), graphic novels, superheroes, the movies, certain TV shows and books, and certain elements of popular culture. I'm developing Matrix of Truth to be a place where we can explore, celebrate, and also scrutinize all of these arenas together — without reservation OR apology for our commitment to and indulgence in them, even as grownups!
So, feel free to make this space your home and playground . . . you're welcome here! Think of Matrix of Truth as a cinema, where we present compelling, can't-look-away mysteries and stories for you to consider...a library, where we're unafraid to comb the depths and do the research in our quest for real answers . . . a lounge, where you're invited to get comfortable with the unknown, knowing that the answers are indeed out there — we're either called to diligently seek them out, or to trust God to reveal them in time . . . and most certainly, a spaceship, where we get to be curious, questioning, geeky, techie, fans, Bible-crazy, and other cool things "out of this world"!
